WILLS AND ESTATES

A will, done properly, provides a voice for you when you are gone.  Without a will, the law provides that the State will be your voice.  A will allows you:

*   To pick a guardian for your children in the event of your death

*   To leave assets to whomever you desire

*   To name a personal representative to handle your affairs after your death

*   To minimize estate taxes

*   To delay inheritances to those under age 18

A will should be reviewed periodically to be sure that your wishes are still accurately reflected in your will.  Events which may warrant a review of your will are: a recent birth or death, new tax laws, marriage or divorce, purchase or sale of assets, selling or buying a home, an inheritance, winning the lottery or having assets in excess of $1,000,000.

After a loved one passes away, the last thing that a family wishes to deal with is a complicated and costly legal process.  Probate and estate administration can be a time-consuming process, but is easier to tolerate with the guidance of an experienced lawyer. We can help you during the probate process.

The goal of estate planning is to maximize what you leave to your beneficiaries while minimizing the time and expense associated with the process.  There are a number of estate planning tools that proactively deal with these problems.
